Re: Current TaskHow does this look for the escort to take the 30 soldiers to New Briar: -Brion Shaw (10 levels) -PFC Vargas (5 levels) -PFC Hunter (5 levels) -Sahme Sweetwater (10 levels) -PFC Boho (5 levels) -PFC Paulson (5 levels) The escort needs to be at least 32 levels. This is 40 levels and leaves Nimarious Steerhelm (10 levels) and Bodyguard (5 levels) at Dragon Dock with the sailors. Or if you don't want to leave the creepy new guy in charge, Sahme could stay and the Bodyguard can go. Nimarious can't really go with the escort because he would not be allowed to leave his skeletons unattended for long (especially not unsupervised at a "base"), and the skeletons would not be welcome in New Briar. [quote author=reefwood board=pfws thread=161 post=2380 time=1289251201 Current TaskThe current task for the PC squad is to escort 30 soldiers from Dragon Dock to New Briar. Here are the numbers: - The distance to be covered is 30 miles.
- The soldiers have a speed of 30 ft and march at 3 mi/hr.
- The soldiers can march the full distance in 10 hrs, so this can be completed in 1 day. You can opt to only work the minimum of 8 hrs of duty in a day. This would require camping out and spread the march over 2 days.
- A minimum of character levels equal to half the squad will be required to safely escort the soldiers. Everyone is leveling up, which means 30 levels from PCs and 35 levels from NPCs for a total of 65 levels for the squad. Half is 32.5, so rounding down, the squad will need to assign at least 32 character levels to the escort. Warsteeds and skeletons are not included in this equation.
- Skeletons will not be welcome in New Briar, and the presence of Ionese troops turned into skeletons would be obvious and offensive to those in New Briar. Stripping the skeletons of their Ionese equipment would make them unrecognizable as Ionese troops.
- Those who are not part of the escort will assist in guarding Dragon Dock.
Obtaining new items through a reward package is guaranteed because your task will take you to an access point, and the squad will regroup by the start of the next chapter. Creating new items with a previously unused equipment line can begin on the first day of time off because an order can be put in immediately by using an amulet of sending to contact the main army. Upgrading current items can begin the day after an access point is reached. You will be without these items while they are upgraded, and this could affect the success of other tasks performed during this time. If the escort reaches New Briar at the end of Day 34, you will have 4 days of upgrade time before the next chapter. This means you can upgrade an item by up to +4,000 gp and have it ready for the start of the next chapter. You may upgrade an item by a larger amount, but this means it won't be ready for the start of the next chapter, so you will have to #1) go without it, or #2) ruin the progress to get it back early without the upgrade, and this means being at an access point, or #3) spend mission time waiting for the upgrade to complete and be at an access point to receive it. However, #2 and #3 may not always be an option, so always be ready to accept #1. The minimum amount info that I need from players is the list of soldiers assigned to the escort. New items from reward packages will be ordered and obtained at the end of the day that the escort reaches New Briar. Unless instructed otherwise, the escort will go to New Briar on Day 34 and return to Dragon Dock on Day 35.[/quote]

Since Nimarious is going to teleport to the main army, we should send Bodyguard as an escort and leave Sahme at the dock.
One more note, when Nimarious teleports to the main army, he can take back our 2 druid prisoners for proper interrogation and imprisonment. Also, I don't think he can teleport all of his skeletons with him when he goes, but he could just stick them all in a room and order them to wait, right?

Also, I don't think he can teleport all of his skeletons with him when he goes, but he could just stick them all in a room and order them to wait, right? The PC squad does not need to maintain a presence at Dragon Dock. I should have done a better job of presenting the options and restrictions currently facing the squad - which led me to laying out a certain plan for the PCs - but maybe you can think of different ways to do them. Options- Travel to any location controlled by Nemedor that can be reached. - Use free time (varies per character) to do anything within reason that doesn't infringe on duty time. Restrictions- 30 sailors must be escorted to New Briar starting on Day 34. This journey can be completed in 1 long day of marching, which would give you less free time that day, but you would be in New Briar at the end of Day 34 (if that even matters to you? but it may if you want to use free time to do something that can't be done on the road). Or it can be spread over 2 days, which would give you more free time but on the road, and you wouldn't arrive in New Briar until the mid-morning of Day 35. - The skeletons cannot be left by themselves for more than a short while. Especially not at a base like Dragon Dock or the embassy in New Briar, and they would not be welcome in New Briar anyway. It would be one thing to leave them alone to guard the entrance of a cave out in the wild while on a mission, but no, you can't leave a whole squad of dangerous creatures by themselves without anyone to control them because they can't be turned off. They can either follow Nimarious or guard an area, which might be okay under certain circumstances to be left guarding a closet that allies will never need to enter but not in potentially hostile territory where the enemy could take control of them. *More coming soon, but I want to post this now since the computer I'm using right now (not home) sometimes turns off without warning. The reason I had Nimarious stay at Dragon Dock is because of the skeletons, not for security or because the PCs have to stay there. And the reason I had the PCs returning to Dragon Dock after escorting the soldiers to New Briar was simply to keep the PC squad together, but really, you can all be doing your own thing during Time Off. The 24 sailors and 6 soldiers who will remain at the dock are enough to keep it safeguarded during Time Off, and other officers will actually be assigned to be in charge of the dock. No one from the PC squad needs to stay at the dock, but Nimarious does need to be with his skeletons for the most part, and the dock seemed like the easiest place for this. If you have other ideas, feel free to share, and here is another one I had... 1) Nimarious has 8 skeletons and up to 4 teleports in a day. Too many skeletons for him to teleport in a day. 2) The skeletons can be left with the main army. Not completely unattended, but there would be other clerics or mages there that could easily control or destroy low HD skeletons if the need arose, so Nimarious could leave them there during Time Off. 3) Nimarious could use 1 teleport to take 3 skeletons to the main army, 1 teleport to return to the dock, 1 teleport to take 3 more skeletons to the main army, and 1 teleport to return to the dock. This would leave him with 2 skeletons...which could be teleported to the main army the next day...or those 2 skeletons could stick with Nimarious at the dock since that isn't too many to teleport, and they could even be teleported to the embassy in New Briar as long as they were kept out of sight in one of the buildings. Of course, if you teleport a bunch of skeletons to the main army, you then have to use more castings to round them all up again. Also, since I already said it, Nimarious doesn't have to make a familiarity roll for teleport during this Time Off, but in the future, this will be required as normal. Alternatively, Nimarious can have Brion permanently destroy the 5 half-elf skeletons, which would leave the 3 boar skeletons that Nimarious can teleport around with, but that would defeat the purpose of his idea to make masterwork full plate for those skeletons. Or he could destroy the 3 boars and 2 half-elves, and this would leave him with 3 half-elf skeletons for his 3 suits of masterwork full plate. Again, these are just my ideas based on the options and restrictions, but if you can think of better ideas, I'd be happy to see them. And if you prefer to maintain a presence at Dragon Dock and/or regroup there by the end of Time Off, that is totally fine too. *This post was written in pieces because the computer I am using will sometimes turn off without warning, but this is now the complete post.

Time Off - Day 34 Brion and the 5 PFCs (Hunter, Vargas, Boho, Paulson, Bodyguard) at Dragon Dock escort the newly-arrived 30 Nemedoran soldiers to New Briar where they then re-unite with Bard Mage and Fighter #1 who present their findings (see the Chapter 10, Part II thread). Additionally, Brion puts in his reward order with Specialist Ni who teleports to the main army in the evening and returns later at night with the rewards. [ OOC: This is what I have listed for rewards... - Masterwork Fullplate (1650g), Refitting for 2 Masterwork Full Plates (1100g) Raw Materials for 7 Large Non-humanoid Masterwork Studded Leather Bardings (583.33g), 1 Warsteed (600g) [nonmagical equipment line - 4000g]
- +3 bonus to Full Plate (9000g) [magic enhancement line - 9,000g]
- +2 Headband of Wisdom (4000g), +1 Amulet of Natural Armor (2000g) 40 Onyx Gems [Magic Items line, +1000 limit increase - 7000g]
Originally, I said that Specialist Ni could not teleport the Warsteed. Not because she isn't capable but because she has more important things and people to teleport back and forth than a mount. However, enough days have passed that it makes sense for all vital personnel and gear to have already been transported to the Nemedoran embassy in New Briar, so she can use 2 out of her 3 Medium creature "teleport passenger slots" to bring 1 Large mount. Although, 1 of her slots will always be used for a guard (in case there is a teleport error that lands her in a bad spot). Also, the full plates weigh 150 lb and raw materials weigh 373.33 lb for a total weight of 523.33 lb. Her standard limit for rewards will be a Bag of Holding, Type II which has a 500 lb limit, but since she is bringing a mount, she can load the excess weight onto it this time. And normally when work needs to be done on equipment, such as refitting or repairs, the work starts in the morning, so anything received toward the end of the day would not get started until the next morning, but since I'm waiving the refitting time this time, we won't worry about that this time either.]
Sahme remains at Dragon Dock with 24 sailors and 6 soldiers. He helps keep watch and an eye on the skeletons while Nimarious is away.
Nimarious teleports to the main army in the morning to obtain rewards and drop off equipment for upgrade. Then, he teleports back to Dragon Dock and spends 6 hrs studying and transfering a scroll of fabricate into this spellbook. [ OOC: I'm still waiting to find out what, if anything, Nimarious wants to do with the remaining 1,000 gp of the "Magic Enhancements..." equipment line. Upgrade masterwork breastplate to +1 breastplate on Day 34 (which means the mithral shield will be ready at the end of Day 38 - last day of Time Off)? Wait to cash in this equipment on Day 35 and apply it to a fabricated suit of masterwork full plate (which means the mithral shield won't be upgraded until the end of Day 39 - one days into Chapter 11)?]

I don't have anything since none of my new armor is ready at that time. If anyone else has an armor or shield that they want me to add a +1 to, let me know. If not, I'll do one of the mst breastplates.

If not, I'll do one of the mst breastplates. It looks like all the grunts have a +1 (or better) armor and shield, except for your Bodyguard. He has +1 breastplate and a darkwood shield and darkwood tower shield. Although, it sounds like he will focus on reach weapons and not be using the shield, so maybe the breastplate for the skeleton? Anyway, this is enough info for me to continue, so I'll start making rolls and post the results shortly.

Time Off - Day 35
Brion and the 7 PFCs ride back to Dragon Dock. Each on a heavy warsteed and carrying raw materials to be fabricated into barding for their mounts. They are joined by Specialist Ni and her bodyguard who ride on summoned mounts. She familiarizes herself with Dragon Dock and teleports back to New Briar at the end of the day.
Nimarious prepares 4 castings of fabricate in an attempt to produce 3 suits of masterwork full plate for his skeletons and 1 masterwork studded leather barding for a warsteed. Craft (armorsmithing) +17:
Masterwork Full Plate #1 Standard Component (DC 19): 16 +17 = 33, success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 8 +17 = 25, success!
Masterwork Full Plate #2 Standard Component (DC 19): 3 +17 = 20, success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 17 +17 = 34, success!
Masterwork Full Plate #3 Standard Component (DC 19): 5 +17 = 22, success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 3 +17 = 20, success!
Masterwork Studded Leather Barding (Warsteed) #1 Standard Component (DC 13): auto-success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 18 +17 = 35, success!
Nimarious has completed 3 suits of masterwork full plate for his skeletons and 1 masterwork studded leather barding for a warsteed.
Also, he studies and scribes for 5 hrs to add minor creation to his spellbook.
Time Off - Day 36
Nimarious continues to fabricate barding for the warsteeds:
Masterwork Studded Leather Barding (Warsteed) #2 Standard Component (DC 13): auto-success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 10 +17 = 27, success!
Masterwork Studded Leather Barding (Warsteed) #3 Standard Component (DC 13): auto-success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 12 +17 = 29, success!
Masterwork Studded Leather Barding (Warsteed) #4 Standard Component (DC 13): auto-success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 14 +17 = 31, success!
Masterwork Studded Leather Barding (Warsteed) #5 Standard Component (DC 13): auto-success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 6 +17 = 23, success!
Nimarious has completed another 4 masterwork studded leather bardings for the warsteeds.
Also, he studies and scribes for 5 hrs to add scrying to his spellbook but cannot cast the spell until obtaining a silver mirror worth 1,000 gp.
Time Off - Day 37
Nimarious continues to fabricate barding for the warsteeds:
Masterwork Studded Leather Barding (Warsteed) #6 Standard Component (DC 13): auto-success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 4 +17 = 21, success!
Masterwork Studded Leather Barding (Warsteed) #7 Standard Component (DC 13): auto-success! Masterwork Component (DC 20): 11 +17 = 28, success!
Nimarious has completed all 7 masterwork studded leather bardings for the warsteeds.
Also, he studies and scribes for 5 hrs to add arcane sight to his spellbook.
Time Off - Day 38
Nimarious teleports to the main army at the end of the day to pick up his upgraded +3 mithral buckler and a +1 armor or shield. Then, he teleport back to Dragon Dock.
[OOC: Looks like shifting those 2 more skill points into Craft (armorsmithing) paid off. Probably would have still finished everything during Time Off but not as quickly.
Also, the entire squad is reunited...so now, which warsteeds get the barding? And is anyone taking the mithral items found in the Blackfens?]

I think the warsteeds used Samhe and Private Hunter should go without barding. Samhe will rarely fight on top of his horse, and Hunter will generally keep out of melee range, so the barding is less important.
If there are no complaints, Vargas is getting the longsword, and Bodyguard is getting the shield.
