Sounds good.
The ring might be useful for stamping The Hand's symbol on things.
Does Renold recognise the compass as a Pathfinders compass?
In the two weeks, I'd also like to try to find a divine caster capable of making staves. I'd like to commission a staff with CLW, Command, and Sanctuary, which, should be 900 gp. Did you see my question in the other thread about adding abilities to staves after they are created?

I think Renold should wear the ring by default and have it molded into his holy symbol, so that it's always displayed. Gendrew can mold it into the symbol of the Hand, so we can easily give him the ring whenever we need to mark an area. Gettul can be a standby, and if we ever come across a symbol we think we might need in the future, he can put on the ring to use it.
Gettul would definitely like to hold onto the scroll of Divine Waters of Lamashtu, and mark it into his formula book as soon as he can prepare level 2 extracts. He'd also like to hang onto the vials of the water to use in the meantime.
Gettul's primary goal for his time off is to get some scrolls that he can use to add extracts to his formula book.
ant haul bomber's eye comprehend languages detect secret doors detect undead disguise self endure elements jump keen senses negate aroma reduce person touch of the sea true strike
This is every 1st level Alchemist formula Gettul doesn't know. I'd like to make a Knowledge Local check (+11) to find a decent shop that sells scrolls and is relatively close by. If I don't know of one, I'd get a recommendation from Gandry.
I want to go there early the day after we get back from the crypt. If they have any of these scrolls at CL 1 available, I want to buy it on the spot. I'd also like to leave a list of all the ones they don't have with the shop owner, and essentially have one of each of these scrolls put on order for me. I'd pay up front any scrolls I put on order, and offer a hefty tip for timely acquisition. (10 gp per scroll for those obtained within one week, 5 for those obtained within 2.) I'd also make it clear that there's a lot of potential for future business if this works out. Basically, I want to give him a lot of incentive to do the legwork on hunting down these scrolls. In fact, I'd bring Renold with me, and let him present the deal to the shop owner, as he's much better at that sort of thing. I would attempt to aid his diplomacy roll, at a -1 to my check.
The total cost is 325gp, plus whatever I have to pay in tips.
As for scribing them from the scroll into my formula book, it doesn't specifically say one way or the other, but I assume that's a craft alchemy check rather than a spellcraft check since it's not technically a spell, and that tends to be the normal substitution for this class. The DC is 16 for any of these, (15 + spell level) and if I use the Crafter's Fortune extract, my craft Alchemy is +18, so I can't possibly fail.

Rabbit: Do you have enough gold for your hammer? I could loan you some if you need it.
Things Ren wants to do during his downtime: Sell +1 Morningstar. Find someone to enchant his shield to +1. (1000 gp) Purchase a +1 Ring of Protection. (2000 gp) Purchase +1 Amulet of Natural Armor (2500 gp) (If there's extra money from Ren's take of the most recent adventure)
I think it makes sense to put off the Mithril armor a little longer, and get some smaller AC boosts, since the Mithril armor gives a +1/3500 GP bonus ratio, and the three enchantments above are all cheaper than that.
When we all get a little wealthier, we might want to consider horseshoes of speed. 3000 gp: +30 movement, almost doubles their 40 ft speed.

RenoldDoes Renold recognise the compass as a Pathfinders compass? Renold knows that official members of the Pathfinder Society are issued a wayfinder compass that can emit magical light and serves as a symbol association. Although, not everyone working with the society (such as trainees or outside consultants / contractors) would be expected to have one, but there are occasions where one could be issued to a non-member. Furthermore, anyone in Cheliax these days who is seen with a wayfinder would come under scrutiny or suspicion, especially without a formal request to enter the nation, and even moreso in Westcrown. That is the kind of info that Renold would know thanks to his trait, but he has never seen a wayfinder. What does Renold have for Knowledge (local)? This seems like a good skill for general, current organizations. Whereas, arcana could also be used for magic groups or religion for religious groups, and history would be necessary for long ago groups, etc. Things Ren wants to do during his downtime: Sell +1 Morningstar. Find someone to enchant his shield to +1. (1000 gp) Purchase a +1 Ring of Protection. (2000 gp) Purchase +1 Amulet of Natural Armor (2500 gp) (If there's extra money from Ren's take of the most recent adventure) This should mostly all be doable during the time off, but I'll let you know for sure later this week. GettulGettul would definitely like to hold onto the scroll of Divine Waters of Lamashtu, and mark it into his formula book as soon as he can prepare level 2 extracts. He'd also like to hang onto the vials of the water to use in the meantime. Okay, I'll mark these as being claimed by Gettul. You'll probably be able to find most of these and will get back to you later this week. Also, the tip idea is a good one. It says that it works just like a Wizard, except no need to decipher arcane writings, so it will require the same kind of check - Spellcraft. The only time a skill will be substituted is if it is specifically noted as doing so. I imagine Craft (alchemy) works for identifying a potion (and no other magic items) because it is a liquid and the alchemist is all about the magic liquids. Also, the alchemist uses alchemist level as caster level for brewing potions, but it seems to otherwise function the same as creating a potion. Therefore, it requires a Spellcraft check, and it looks like Gettul can't fail that either (DC 5 +caster level: DC 5 +caster level 4 = DC 9 /// Spellcraft roll 1 +8 = 9). Crypt Loot- Broken +1 Falchion (1780gp; 5/20 hp, hard 12; 8 lb) - Grell
- Broken +1 Misting Chainshirt (??gp; 7/30 hp, hard 12; 25 lb)
- Divine scroll of Waters of Lamashtu (625gp) - Gettul
- 2 Doses of Waters of Lamashtu (625gp each = 1250gp total) - Gettul
- Ring of Arcane Sigils - group [w/Renold?]
- Compass - Renold?
- 8 tiny black gems - 4 Grell

My thinking was that formulae are much more like recipes for potions than they are spells, so writing them would be more alchemical than spellcraft. However, if spellcraft is the way we're doing it, I would ask that Renold cast Guidance before I make any attempts to write them into my book. This gives me a +9 to my check.
I would like to make 1 potion per day during the break, but I'll wait to see what other extracts I learn before I decide what I make.
I have a question on the armor. When it turns into mist, does it still grant you a bonus to AC? I'd also like to make an appraise check on it. I have a +7.
I don't see much of a reason to hide what happened with the Orphans. As for the crypt loot, so far I think we're keeping all of it, but if we do end up selling any of it, I think we'd use the standard "found it on a salvage expedition" excuse. In this case, it's even kind of true.

Armor Renold should be able to determine the aura strength of the Chainshirt, with his detect magic, right? Faint (5th or , Moderate (6th–11th), or Strong (12th–20th). Unfortunately both +2, and +3 bonuses fall into Moderate, so this probably won't give us any extra insight into the item. Either way, my vote would be to sell the chainshirt. It sounds like it loses it's armor bonus when it mists, which isn't very useful. We should also, of course sell all of the gems.
Mother, Gandry, The Hand I wouldn't have any problem telling Mother and the People's Hand everything. It seems like that's exactly the sort of trouble they are trying to weed out of the city. Same thing with Gandry; our cover story is that we are artifact hunters, which is exactly what we were doing in the loot. Of all our missions, this one fits almost perfectly with what we are supposed to be doing.
Pathfinders Compass Ren has a +3 knowledge (Local). I'd also examine the skeleton (and his/her tomb) that contained the compass. In particular, looking for a date/name, or any other information I can tell about them. I'd like to try to find out how long he has been dead.
I think we still need to figure out exactly what we're going to say in a meeting with The People's Hand, but I'm ok jumping ahead a bit. I think our rough timeline is: head back to the tavern, talk to Gandry/Pickup the remainer from the last big sale. Give Gandry the gems and anything else we need to sell. Pick up Rabbit's hammer (which, do I still have my successful find roll, just needing more time?) Head to the Hand's hideout, bringing the extra weapons, if they haven't already been take there. Then have our meeting.
edit: somewhere in there, I'd like to exchange up all of my copper and silver coins, repair (and sell) the broken tower shield (You can add this to the pool that will get split between all of us). With any extra time I'd like to research the compass, and spend some time trying to find casters able to create/enhance magic items.

I'm at the library and forgot my d20 at home, but I'll make some rolls later and post info while working tomorrow. But a few things I can answer...
-The +1 misting chainshirt does lose its AC bonus while in mist form, and it has a faint aura. I'll make a Spellcraft roll to see if Renold can determine the school.
-Renold can upgrade the shield. Not going to bother with rolls to determine success but will roll the numbers just out of curiosity.
-Renold can find the ring or amulet... and I believe the amulet is also 2,000 (not the 2,500 listed above).
-The skeleton was slumped up against the wall, if that wasn't clear. It wasn't inside a coffin of any sort. There was writing on the coffins in the upper area, but no one could read them. There is also writing on the sacrificial slab, but no one can read that either.
-Heal check to estimate length of death.
-Most of the stuff in the rough timeline can be accomplished over these two weeks, including Gendrew's hammer, Gandry selling stuff, conversing with Hand, changing copper+silver to gold and repairing+selling the tower shield, researching compass.
I'll get some sort of summary up by the weekend.

Interesting, if the chainmail is faint aura, that means it's not +2, which means that the misting isn't a +1 equivalent bonus. Must be some sort of add-on.
Looks like you're right about the amulet price. After selling the +1 morningstar, getting Renold's take from the last batch of sales, enchanting his shield, and buying the ring, he's 850 gp short on the amulet, so it'll depend on how much we can sell the chainshirt and gems for.
Renold has a +6 heal.

Closing (Part A)
Starday, Neth 27 6:25p - Grell and the Hopcrushers spend a long night in the Ark'eep mausoleum. The hobgoblin reveals that she learned of this place from the half-orc. He was not a statue a few days ago but shared nothing more than the word “keep” and location of the graveyard. They were not friends, but Grell knew him from the Evening Market where she and her brothers assist their father, Kuraud. The half-orc was more or less in the employ of another vendor at the Evening Market - Morz the Drunk, a fat and disheveled human who supplies the Rotten Skull as well as any individuals with coin or service to spare. The market itself is organized by the mysterious “black cloaks” who move it every few days.
Gettul [Appraise +7] believes the +1 misting chainshirt may have been worth a few thousand gold when it was in good condition, and Renold [Spellcraft +8] determines that it has an aura of conjuration. The bones [Heal +6] look very old, but Renold cannot say how long they've been down here. As for the compass [Know (local) +3], it seems similar to a wayfinder but does not function quite like what he has heard about them.
Sunday, Neth 28 7:40a - Grell depates at first light. Renold prays while Gettul prepares extracts. 8:40a - The morning is gray and cool when the dwarves exit the mausoleum. Mist rolls across the graveyard but causes no more ill than uneasy feelings. 9:40a - Some of the rundottari at the Obrigan Gate recognize the dwarves, but the familiarity does not alleviate any formalities. They are detained briefly, questioned thoroughly, and their paperwork is inspected closely. The effort this morning seems to be supervised by a tiefling who never addresses the dwarves directly. Gendrew recognizes the man as one of the higher ranking rundottari under Arik's command. 10:40a - The dwarves are released and ride their ponies down to the Barley. 11:45a - Gandry is glad to see her kin walk in the door after yet another night of not returning home. The third night this week. She notes that today is Transmutatum - a holiday devoted to self-improvement, and hopes to see them back to work again this week and earning some coin for the clan. Also, she pays them for the last batch of items sold, and takes the morningstar, chainshirt, tower shield, and gems.
[OOC: The inn down the street has a stable that charges 5sp per day, which comes to 7gp per pony to cover the next 2 weeks.
Renold's Personal Loot Sold: 1x HW Shield - Ren (7gp) 1x Warhammer - Ren (12gp) TOTAL = 19 x60% = 11gp, 4sp Renold
Additional Orphan Loot Sold: +1 huntsman longbow (8375 gp) 5x searing arrow (7580 gp) 2x studded leather (50 gp = 25 gp x2) 2x thieves tools (60 gp = 30 gp x2) 2x mw thieves tools (200 gp = 100 gp x2) 3x tanglefoot bag (150 gp = 50 gp x3) TOTAL = 16415 x60% = 9849gp
This is the rest of what you'll have for spending during the next 2 weeks. Not sure how exactly you want to divide it up, especially since Renold is now throwing the +1 morningstar into the next pot of items to be sold, so I'll leave that up to you guys. Also, this number is different than what icnivad posted earlier, but it is correct. I think if I try to explain the difference, it will just make things more confusing. It has to do with gold that was part of the last payment, but don't worry, you received everything coming to you, and feel free to check the math above. Also, it may be a while before the next big chunk of gold, so you may not want to spend every last coin.
Additional Items to be Sold: 1x +1 morningstar (2308gp) 1x +1 misting chainshirt (???gp) 1x tower shield (30gp - repaired, old Chelish) 4x tiny black gems (???gp)
This money will come to you at the end of the 2 weeks.
Moving Along
The next summary will cover interactions with the People's Hand over the next 2 week: reporting to mother, delivering stolen goods to return and equipment to use, convening a meeting, Gettul working with Sparkle, etc. Just let me know if there is anything more to note than what is mentioned in prior posts. Such as, is there something else that you want to tell the group as a whole, in addition to what you report to Mother? Also, this is the equipment being delivered for use:
To Hand: 2x breastplate (Gendrew + Renold) 2x mw studded leather 2x studded leather 2x light mace 2x short sword 6x dagger 4x light crossbow 260 bolts
Also, do you ride or walk to the Safe House. Walking takes 2 hr, 15 min. Riding ponies takes 1 hr, 8 min.]

Sounds good. Of the loot sold: Gendrew: 3274.6 GP Gettel: 4084.6 GP Renold: 2489.8 GP This still assumes that Renold has the +1 Breastplate. I figure the easiest way to handle that is to give him, directly the coin from the sale of that when it comes back (so, can you keep that separate like you did the warhammer and shield). That should be equal to how much less of the loot he received.
I can't think of any reason not to ride to the safe house.
Also, Renold will try to repair the chainshirt, which if it's a +1 weapon with a secondary ability, it might be repairable.

Closing (Part B) - The People's Hand
Sunday, Neth 28 12:00p - The dwarves ride their ponies through Rego Scripa and Rego Pena into Rego Sacero. Beggars are not uncommon in parts of this district. Hoping to find food or shelter at lesser houses of worship. Some even daring to squat in abandoned ones. Though, they stay well clear of the red-glowing behemoth -Qatada Nessudidia- built for Asmodeus after the fall of Aroden and rise of House Thrune. Despite this somewhat common sight, Gettul does take note of a handful of street kids scattered across the neighborhood around the safe house. Not so much their number or appearance but moreso their placement and actions. On side streets away from the main flow of traffic and seeming rather observant.
1:10p - Shadow steps out of an alley before the dwarves reach the safe house. When he learns they are coming to see Mother, he guides them away to tie up their horses in an adjacent neighborhood. A couple street kids follow at a distance and sit down within sight of the hitching posts along a street market. Shadow explains that the street kids are friends helping to keep an eye around the safe house, but they know nothing of the Hand.
1:40p - Mother greets the dwarves. Little Brother is also present and looks over the equipment. They both listen carefully to the details of the dealings with the Orphans. Mother is somewhat surprised and off-put by their direct approach and attempt at negotiations but is pleased by how things played out in the end. Justice was done. Also, she is very happy that the stolen goods were recovered and will see to it that other members of the Hand return them discretely and marked with the open hand.
Little Brother happily puts on the breastplate that belonged to Gendrew and swings the table leg that has now been carved into a makeshift club. He is clumsy at first. Easily able to handle the armor weight but stumbling forward with each swing. Some pointers from Gendrew help steady his balance.
Toilday, Neth 30 A meeting is convened for everyone to touch base. All are impressed by the dwarves' work. Equipment is distributed amongst several members. Hammer, Rose, Shadow, and Whisper collect the stolen goods. Also, Mother engages the group in a lengthy discussion to focus their aims and encourages everyone to lay low for the next couple weeks to see what, if anything, comes of the action with the Orphans.
* * * * *
Over the next two weeks, Gettul and Sparkle get together at the Barley for a pair of long study sessions. He tutors her in the deciphering of arcane writings and succeeds in transcribing two spells from her grandfather's spellbook into his formula book. Sparkle does stand out amongst the majority of dock workers and sailors – her jewelry, youth, refined speech, and even the cloak in its higher quality and lack of wear. She appears better off than Korva and Pavo, though, not as showy as Lady Dagny or Shuo Zhen.
[OOC: The Safe House is in the NW part of Rego Sacero, and the Asmodeus temple is a couple miles away in the N center part.
To Hand: 2x breastplate (Gendrew + Renold) – Little Brother, Quill 2x mw studded leather – Rose, Woodsman (Larko) 2x studded leather – Big Brother, Hammer 2x light mace – Hammer, Quill 2x short sword – Rose, Shadow 6x dagger – Big Brother, Quill, Rose, Sparkle, Shadow, Woodsman (Larko) 4x light crossbow – Big Brother, Little Brother, Quill, Hammer 260 bolts
Info about the meeting will be posted in the Safe House thread later this week. Feel free to post in there whatever your dwarf wants to say or to weigh in on the NPC ideas. Also, info can be added to this post if there's anything else you want to do at the meeting with Mother or during the two weeks.
The last summary will cover what happens over the next two weeks related to actions and events from this first chapter.
The intro for the next chapter will lay the groundwork for the approach of winter and anything else of note.]

Closing (Part C) – Orphan Aftermath
Members of the People Hand -stealthier ones guided by those who reside in Rego Crua- make quick work of discreetly returning the stolen goods to their rightful owners (except the fine blades for the slain weaponsmith has no heirs). Word of this good fortune spreads across the sector and carries into Parego Spera via those who cross the Bladewing Bridge to trade or toil. Every tale notes one particular curiosity: in each bundle was placed a token -sewn or smithed or carved...crude or plain or intricate- in the shape of an open hand.
Another week passes when rumors creep out of Rego Cader of a ghastly grave discovered. Under an old temple but full of bodies fresh and fiendish and forced unto death. The only other detail was that a "hand" had left ts mark here too.
It did not take long for Wiscrani to link the two events. Many wondered to whom did this hand belong? Guesses were made -naming a source divine or arcane or mundane- with those most grateful wishing they could give its owner a shake in thanks.
Renold scours the cityblibrary for insights on the compass and clues to any Pathfinder connection. Details concerning the society are scant in recent recent history -recent relative to a dwarf, that is. The volumes covering the past Wiscrani century show the wear of only a decade or two. A sure sign on the updates decreed by House Thrune and enforced by the Order of the Rack.
By all accounts, the Pathfinders fled while the nation grieved and anguished over the death of a man turned god who fell mortal in the end. Long after order was restored, an envoy from Absalom pleaded to re-open the abandoned lodge. Permission was granted, but the Society adheres not to honor nor law, and thus, the Pathfinders were expelled and the lodge shutdown permanently by mayoral decree.
Older tomes hold little more detail. Scattered accounts of crimes committed by Society members -mostly plunderers and spies- over the millennia. A brooch with a stylized “P” and a glowing compass are noted as identifying items but nothing more specific is found.
[OOC: Each PC receives 900 XP, 2 fame points, 1 hero point, and 957gp, 6sp 496gp. Also, Renold receives an additional 1384.8gp.
All the stolen goods were returned except for those of the murdered weaponsmith because he had no other kin, so the Hand still has these items: 2x jeweled short sword (7 lb, 150gp each x2 = 300gp) 2x mw longsword (8 lb, 315gp each = 615gp) 4x mw kukri (8 lb, 308gp each x4 = 1,232gp)]

Was Renold able to sell the +1 Morningstar? Without selling it, he has enough money for the shield enchantment, and Ring of Protection, and is about 1000 short on the Amulet, so, he might be able to afford that after selling the ring.
What would it take to get the Pathfinders legally allowed back in. Would that require another Mayoral decree?
