Superhero Name: America Prime (retired)
Real Name: Ace Davis (identity is well known, even in his day)
Nationality: US of A
Born:1883
Description:
Ace Davis is a crotchety old ex-guardian who has "forgotten more about superheroin' than you whippersnappers'll ever know." He is an iconic figure from the 20s to 60s having fought on Americas side during both world wars. His powers are fairly standard powers from the early days of superheros (strength, invulnerability, flying), but while he still has his powers, he's been in retirement for the last 40 years and does not like to use them--just wants to be left alone till he dies. With the disappearance of the guardians, he has been asked to come out of retirement to help and has reluctantly done so in order to "show these young'n's that superheroin' ain't all about gadgets and doo-dads." (or should he start the game in retirement?) He carries a cane and is usually slow to act, hard of hearing and vision, and excitement often causes him to clutch his chest and complain about a pain in his left arm. Although a careful observer might notice an awareness to his eyes showing a glimpse of his still sharp mind defying his age that occasionally presents itself when he thinks no one is watching.
Secretly, he is physically not in anywhere near as bad of shape as he lets on. His problem is more emotional / psychological. Having watched all of his old friends and lovers die off one by one of old-age he has simply lost his will to live and is ready to die himself. He drinks, smokes, eats junkfood, and generally takes horrible care of his body in an effort to kill himself. Unfortunately his powers keep his body in excellent shape despite gaining a few wrinkles, which are really just an outward appearance of his emotional state, rather than true aging. Secretly he wonders if he even can die.
Appearance:
Ace Davis is done superheroing and swears that he will not be caught dead in spandex ever again. He has white hair, a mustache, and tanned, wrinkled skin from too much time in the sun. He typically wears tan or dark slacks, and blazer jacket that never quite matches. He wears glasses and has a favorite hat. He carries a cane that appears to be made of wood. Anyone attempting to pick up the cane, however, would notice that it weighs around 80 lbs as it is actually solid hardened steel.
When Ace was a superhero he wore red, white and blue spandex with a cape.
Honorifics:
Ace was a key contributor to the forming of The Guardians, being one of the initial members. Prior to that he was a member of the US Army and has received more honorifics and medals in his service than he cares to remember. Although his missions tended to be more along the lines of special ops, he technically carries the rank of a 3 star general and has met every president from Wilson to Nixon (who he fell out of favor with over a disagreement regarding the vietnam conflict, which eventually led to his retirement).
Origin:
In the spring of 1882 Harold and Betty Davis were advisers to President James Garfield when the president was visited by a being from another planet. This being, whose true name contains letters our written and spoken language does not have symbols or sounds for, became known as Quixxach. The name of his race known as the Rrachlah.
While some, including the president and the Davis' accepted Quixxach with open arms, there were many who feared and resented this alien. During his time here the Davis' were given the assignment of tending to this foreign being. The Davis' were fair people who helped Quixxach on countless occasions both to understand humans as well as avoid trouble (sometimes with force) from those who would do him harm. The full story does not need to be told here, but the two weeks the Quixxach was on our planet ended with his assassination.
Being a race of significant mental and magical powers, the Rrachlah have long since given up shedding their mortal coil. An immortal race, they affect their immortality not by living forever in their bodies, however -- their bodies are frail and weak, literally being held together by the powers of the Rrachlah. When a Rrachlah is reaching the end of his time, he transfers his mind and soul into the body of a fetus, still developing. There he waits for his rebirth. To lose a life is unthinkable to the Rrachlah as they have each been around for thousands of years.
When Quixxach was shot he was very far from his own people -- too far to send his spirit back to his own race. Having lived for thousands of years, and having accumulated much knowledge, the Rrachlah did not know what else to do but to send his soul into the 1 month old growing baby within Betty Davis.
Inside this alien fetus, the normal process for implanting his soul on the new body and mind did not go according to plan, however, and Quixxach's soul ended up in the baby, but his consciousness severed. The baby developed, however, and Quixxach, still conscious, but not in control of the human mind poured what powers he could into the developing body. Fearing that this would be his last body, and realizing that his ability to affect the material world would be limited, he poured his energy into adjusting the molecular makeup of the body making the baby tough and nearly indestructable. When Ace was young, it quickly became apparent that he was different, never getting sick, and virtually immune to all harm. To this day, Quixxach watches over him, helping out where he can.
