So I have been looking at board games and keeping a look out for some tactical board games/ RPGs. Bridgetown has a box starter set for "WarHammer Fantasy Roleplay." new.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=729It is pretty expensive but looks to come with three or more core rule books, 60-ish figures, card, etc (what seems enough to be able to play open-ended.) My reluctance about warhammer is that it comes off as one of those games designed to urge players to buy the next expansion pact or whatever. BUT, if we had a single boxset that we used could we have fun? Would it be worth it? Also, I think this version is an adaptation from the original with a little more attention on roleplay. ...I am not super familiar with the game(s) and their spin offs. My impression is that it is a strategic 'board' game with some elements of role playing. I am going to research it more myself, but I also wanted to hear what you guys think. Have you played? Would you be interested in playing? What do you know about the game? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Fantasy_Battle

That's funny - I actually just ordered a copy of this from Amazon, where it's being sold at a significant discount, and I was going to see if any of you would be willing to give it a test drive. For what it's worth, I don't think it's really a tactical combat game - the RPG and the minis game are pretty separate entities. I've heard some terrific stuff about this, though - you can see a discussion here that really sold me on it. My copy's back ordered and won't arrive until after the holidays, but if anyone's down to try it, let me know.

That is funny. I will be down with playing, of course.

it looks like 1/19th is open for games. Unless someone has a game or something they want to run would people be interested in hanging out and looking over the warhammer stuff? Provided enric is up for this, of course. might even be able to play some board games or something, too

Sure. I'm still working my way through the rules, but I can be ready by next week.

and that is totally fine. i was thinking that we could all just flip through the books and check the rules out. i was not expecting you to have anything 'ready' for us. ...but i would not be sad about it either.

I was thinking along the same lines. Realized that next Tuesday was open and that everyone else was running something on-going, so was going to ask if Enric wanted to run something. Warhammer sounds good to me! Whether it's just going over rules or playing a bit too.

Okay, yeah, I don't think I'm going to feel completely comfortable running this by Tuesday night - I'd like to give the rules another read before "really" playing. How do you folks feel about coming over to do character creation and checking out the mechanics, and then we can play something else? Maybe another game of Zombie Cinema, or Ocean? Or something else entirely.
