(A chance for some online role play in between sessions.)
As the sun sets on the jungles of Salas our adventurers settle in for the night. Having searched and secured the dwarven compound there is not much left to do but wait for the night to pass.
The small troop of travelers does their best to relax in the large dining hall on the first floor of Stone Crow Keep. The large fire place burns brightly casting shadows on the stone walls. The large room feels very empty with so many chairs unused. The constant rumble of crashing water echoes off the stone room.
Snurry Hammerday, the lone survivor sits by the fire slowly drawing from his pipe. The dwarf is calm even though his eyes are red with tears that he does not try to hide or wipe away. Snurry stares into the fire seeming content to forget his surroundings.

Darven is not a man of many words. They do not come easy to him, and his gruff exterior makes it difficult to convey proper meaning.
He spent much of the past few years alone in the mountains. No need for words. Axes were a better friend to him during that time than anyone he met. They kept predators at bay, brought down game for food and clothing, splintered wood to fuel fire. A pair of small axes were all he had for so long. Eventually, he fashioned a staff to aid in hiking and defense. The bow came from a hobgoblin. Not an easy kill, but with their leader dispatched, the goblin bandits fought among themselves and were no longer much threat to travelers through that particular pass.
The more recent months not only brought people into his life, but an array of weaponry. Some superior to his axes in ways, but none provided the same versatility, and as such, Darven spent his energy on learning to maximize the use of his growing arsenal rather than focusing once again on any single weapon.
Standing in the corner, Darven eyes the vicious looking axe on the table. He was not terribly familiar with dwarves, let alone weapons made specific by their kind. He had not met many of the stout race before Gendrew. Goblinoids inhabited the mountains of Pike Line... but recent events had introduced him to several more dwarves, friend and foe. Perhaps the time has come to take up their steel.
Darven walks casually across the room and grips the axe with one hand.
[OOC: Darven is going to take some practice swings with it. Just through the air to get a feel for the weapon. The next post will detail his findings, along with reaction to what anyone else does, if warrented.]

Ziff sat in one of the dwarven bunks, focusing on his spells. He could feel he'd gotten stronger, unlocked more secrets of nature, but also knew he wasn't as proficient as he'd liked. He simply lacked the wisdom to make full use of the new magics within him.
"Nothing to be done for it now." He sighed to himself. "I've enough knowledge for one of the stronger spells, at least. If we go to find the fiends that ordered this siege, I'd best choose a good one on the 'morrow. For now, perhaps it's time for some dinner"
The ears of Lord Stoutmuzzle perked up at a familiar word, and one of his favorites at that. He started salivating, and let out an eager bark. His druid companion hopped down from the bed, and Brass trotted after him to the common area.
Gud gnome, he thought, Dinner>Fire. All is Forgive.
[OOC] Ziff's wisdom score isn't high enough to give him a bonus spell at 4th level. When we get to Nightfall, I'm going to try to buy an item that increases wisdom, preferably a ring.
[OOC-2] One thing I'd like to do is try recover Durzh's body. I'd need somebody (probably Darven) to use a rope and lower me into the lake from that balcony. It would be best if the rope had a loop at the bottom that's wide enough to put around a dwarf's body, under the armpits, so it can be hauled up. Anyway, when I'm at the bottom, I'll turn into a crocodile, summon 1d4+1 porpoises (blindsight 120') and instruct them to search for the body of a dwarf at the bottom of the lake. If they don't find him, I'll summon a shark (keen scent) and tell him to sniff out a blood trail. Assuming he's found, I'll swim down, pick him up, loop him through the rope, and have him hauled up for a proper burial. (I also would offer to help Snurry bury all the other dwarves, either that day or the morning after.) We could also give a small part of his body to Snurry, if he wants it. If Durzh's alchemical skills are all that, maybe someone will spring for a resurrection.
The entire process of recovering the body shouldn't take more than 10 minutes or so, and I'd like to have done it before the scene you just set up, if possible.

[ooc: With all your skills and determination you will eventually find Durzh's body (one way or another.) His skin looks to have been flayed apart in several places. His tongue tornout. His intestines are missing. Furthermore the body looks like it has been tumbling under the weight of the waterfall for a long time. All and all, not a pretty sight. ]

Snurry Hammerday turns away from the fireplace and watches the ranger investigate the ax. After Darven takes a few swings the dwarf speaks. “That one of their axes is it?” the dwarf knowingly asks. “Looks like a quality piece, though I imagine just about any weapon could be potent in your hands.” Snurry pulls himself off the large fireplace’s hearth and takes a few steps closer to the axe wielding ranger. “It’s Darven, right?” the dwarf says, “Alright. Why don’t you show me your stance? I won’t fool myself into thinking my skill as a fighter can match yours, but that is a dwarven war ax and well, I am a dwarf.”

The dwarven axe was heavy, but Darven was able to lift it easily enough in only one hand. The difficulty came from its design. The blade was enormous, especially when compared to the length of the haft, and the back of the blade was weighted. This is probably what gave it such a vicious bite but also made the weapon cumbersome to wield. Darven took a few clumsy swings and one nearly twisted his wrist.
Darven nods and answers as best he can, "Yes, that is my name, and yes, you are a dwarf." He sets down the axe and kneels down at his pack. As he unstraps the maces obtained in Marsh Bay, he is reminded of the demon and is grateful that no need for cold iron has yet arisen in Salas. Although after today, silvered axes would be good to seek out in Night Fall.
The ranger puts on a brief display while explaining his fighting style to Snurry, "I prefer to do battle with a weapon in each hand. It allows me to deal with numerous foes at once or quickly deliver multiple blows to a single enemy. I like to use the momentum from one swing to give some umph to the next. I can now carry it through a few swings before needing to reset my footing. More recently, I've been honing my defenses as well. Two weapons give me a better chance to parry, and when I want to be more guarded, I keep my swings close to lessen the chance of an opening."
Walking over to the dwarf, Darven holds up the bulkier mace, "This one doesn't weigh any more than that axe, which almost snapped my wrist, but the weight is distributed more evenly."
[OOC: Did my best to explain the two-weapon fighting, improved two-weapon fighting, two-weapon defense, and combat expertise feats.]
