Nim would like the three +1 longbows, and bodyguard would be interested in the amulet of natural armor and the cloak of resistance +2.

This was a miscommunication, then. I thought you described all the vials and flasks on him as glowing magical. I definitely would have taken those off of him, magical or not. I'll let it slide this time. There are 19 vials and 10 flasks. Each is filled with a clear, odorless liquid. None are magic, Each vial or flask is 1 pick.

Then I would like to cast Comprehend Languages and try reading the book. Failing that, I'd like to make a profession Military roll to find someone that would be likely to know.

I can put any of my knowledge skills towards figuring this out, too. Or Gather Information to find someone who would know. Is Spellcraft something I can take a 20 on by studying it for longer?

Re: Arcane TomeThen I would like to cast Comprehend Languages and try reading the book. Failing that, I'd like to make a profession Military roll to find someone that would be likely to know. Do you have a wand or some other magic item of comprehend languages? Cos everyone is out of spells at the end of the day when spoils are divided. Read magic was fine cos it's a 0-level spell, so it never runs out as long as its prepped. You can make a Gather Info check to track down someone that might be able to help out, but if you are going to take the time to do that, you have to claim the book to take it with you.

No one can Take 20 on Spellcraft. You can make a Knowledge (arcana) or Intelligence check, but remember, this takes place before leveling up, so be sure to use the Level 11 stats. Sorry, I thought we were dividing spoils the day after the battle, when I could prepare new spells. However, it's not that important, because I do have a wand of Comprehend Languages. It had 6 charges, and I've marked one off. It's CL 1, so it'll last for 10 minutes.

About half of the text in the tome responds to read magic. Not half the book but half the actual writing. For the first several pages, magic and nonmagical writing is divided pretty evenly per page, but they are interweaved and not separated evenly...so, maybe a few symbols that glow, then several that don't, followed by 5 lines that go glow and a block of text and drawings to the side that doesn't, and so on all over the place. Deeper into the book, the writing per page is less and less evenly divided, but the total writing seems to remain about half magic and half non. 30 out of 100 pages are filled with text. [ OOC: I rolled a few Spellcraft checks for Brion to try and figure out the magic parts. Some of it made absolutely no sense to him, but he did recognize symbols for illusion (Spellcraft 22) and transmutation (Spellcraft 21) magic on several pages but could not decipher any actual spells. And an Intelligence roll of 9 did not reveal anything of note about the nonmagical writing. Let me know if you still want to cast comprehend languages.] Time Off & PromotionsI added some info about the undead to Time Off. Also, everyone was promoted, and that info was added after the Time Off section.

Ok, I'm selecting the tome as my first spoil.
I'm operating under the assumption that the book has a spell that is magically hiding its contents. If the owner took that precaution, I'm also going to assume it's trapped.
I'm going to consult with Nimareous before I prepare my spells, and see if he knows of any specific spells that might be used to trap a book. I'd tell him that I recognized the rune for Illusion and the one for Transmutation, but I'd also let him use Read Magic himself so that he might see something I missed.
Tomorrow, I'm definitely going to prepare Read Magic, Comprehend languages (2 castings), Divination, and True Seeing. The rest of the spells I prepare are depending on what I learn from Nimareous when he looks at the book.

The rest of the spells I prepare are depending on what I learn from Nimareous when he looks at the book. As the highest-ranking officer, Brion automatically gets the arcane tome by making it his #1 pick. If Nim has read magic prepped, he can give it a look on this day (49). Otherwise, he will need to wait until after Time Off (Days 50-53) because PCs can no longer do any personal stuff during Time Off, except for special circumstances when doing nothing would be excessively detrimental. Anything else has to be done during mission time. However, since Brion won't be around to participate in the side quest session, I'm fine with letting him use that day (Day 54) to study the arcane tome with those spells, in addition to getting his brother's remains. And if Nim can't help today, he can prep read magic to look at the arcane tome for a few moments (or however much time he wants to give away) before going demon hunting on Day 54. Anyway, first I want to sort out all the immediate post-mission stuff, so you have time to think about what other spells you may want to cast on the arcane tome. I will probably wait to post the results until after the side quest since the higher level spells will be cast that day anyway. Post-MissionI have the spoils lists for Brion and Nim and their grunts. Once I get spoil lists for Sahme and Paulson, I'll post the results. Also, I know that Nim is going to use his 4 hours of leftover time to write one scroll ( magic circle vs evil) into his spellbook. Does anyone want to make a Gather Info (Diplomacy) check to track down the equipment of the skeletons that were left behind? I suppose time could be used during the side quest day to do this too, but the DCs will get harder with each day that passes, and that is 5 days away. What I can tell you is that all the skeletons were recovered. I rolled 1d20 for each group to determine what class found them (Barbarian =1, Wizard = 11, Warrior = 12-20). Classes with access to cure spells or channel energy could have permanently destroyed one, half, or all the skeletons in a group, but none of those were rolled.

I'll go ahead and do this. I'll Touch of Glory myself, so the total bonus on the diplomacy check is a +24.

Thanks for helping with the skeletons. Nim does not have read magic prepared, but *does* have Identify prepared Hopefully this will shed some light. Otherwise he will prepare read magic.

I am going to post the results of the "end of day" stuff soon. Either tonight or tomorrow morning. This will include: - 2 rounds of spoils selection. How I am handling this for the NPCs is that they are going for items they don't have but will improve their stats and items that are improvements of their current items. Between these items, they list their picks in order of price.
- Brion making Gather Info checks. It makes sense for him to start looking for the bigger group of items, and he cannot fail, so it is just a matter of time. He will definitely recover the items from skeletons destroyed during the wall assault, but the equipment on the 1 skeleton destroyed during the street ambush might have to wait til the next mission.
- Nimarius spending his 4 hours to write a scroll into his spellbook.
Let me know if I'm forgetting anything.

Update: Spoils
Round 1 First Sgt. Shaw - Arcane Tome (not magic, 3 lb) Staff Sgt. Sweetwater - n/a Sgt. Steerhelm - +1 Comp. L-bow [Str+2] (3 lb) Sgt. Cleric - Cloak of resistance +2 (1 lb) PFC Duncan - Belt of incredible dexterity +1 (1 lb) PFC Hunter - +1 Comp. L-bow [Str+2] (3 lb) PFC Paulson - n/a PFC Bodyguard - Amulet of natural armor +1 (only fits Tiny to Medium creatures) PFC Fighter #1 - +1 Comp. L-bow [Str+2] (3 lb) PFC Fighter #2 - +1 Dw Shield (5 lb)
Round 2 First Sgt. Shaw - +1 Mithral Morningstar (3 lb) Staff Sgt. Sweetwater - n/a Sgt. Steerhelm - n/a Sgt. Cleric - +1 Dw Light Crossbow (2 lb) PFC Duncan - +1 Mithral shirt (10 lb) PFC Hunter - set of +1 shock arrows (6 arrows total, 0.6 lb) PFC Paulson - n/a PFC Bodyguard - n/a PFC Fighter #1 - Cloak of resistance +1 (1 lb) PFC Fighter #2 - Cloak of resistance +1 (1 lb)
Let's do 2 more rounds of spoil selection. If there is anything else you still want, PM or email your picks (as many as you want) in the order you want them most. This should finish off most of the items, and anything leftover will pass to the PCs, if anyone wants the leftovers.
Remaining Spoils 2x +1 Rapier (2 lb) 1x +1 Mithral shirt (10 lb) 1x Belt of incredible dexterity +1 (1 lb) 1x Cloak of resistance +1 (only fits Tiny to Medium creatures, 1 lb) 2x Elixir of hiding (0.2 lb) 2x Elixir of tumbling (0.2 lb) 1x Elixir of fire breath (0.2 lb) 1x Potion of cure serious wounds (CL5: 3d8+5, 0.1 lb) 2x Potion of cure moderate wounds (CL5: 2d8+5, 0.1 lb) 5x Potion of cure light wounds (CL1: 1d8+1, 0.1 lb) 1x Potion of shield of faith +4 (CL 12: 12 min, 0.1 lb) 2x Potion of invisibility (CL3: 3 min, 0.1 lb) 8x Oil of flame arrow (CL5: 50 min, 0.1 lb) 1x Wand of enervation (CL7: @ 40 ft, 7 hr; x7 ch, 0.1 lb) 1x Wand of magic missile [9th] (CL9: 5 missiles 1d4+1 @ 190 ft; x4 ch, 0.1 lb) 1x Wand of scorching ray (CL7: 2 rays 4d6 fire @ 40 ft w/in 30 ft; x5 ch, 0.1 lb) 10x flask of clear, odorless liquid (not magic, 0.2 each) 19 x vial of clear, odorless liquid (not magic, 0.1 each)
Brion Brion spends 4 hours tracking down the equipment taken from the skeletons destroyed during the wall assault but has no time to look for anything else.
The equipment taken from the half-elf skeleton destroyed in the street ambush has *not* been found. I believe this was skeleton #3 or #4 because there were 2 skeletons in front of his row and 1 skeleton behind his row. The actual skeleton was recovered, but it has no equipment. Another attempt can be made after Time Off during the next session.
Nimarius Nimarius writes the scroll of magic circle against evil into his spellbook.

I'll take the mithril shirt and the belt of dex. I'm sure Rabbit would want the Magic Missile and Scorching Ray wands.

And things I would like to give to Paulson, if no one else is claiming them 8x Oil of flame arrow (CL5: 50 min, 0.1 lb) 1x +1 Rapier (2 lb) 1x Cloak of resistance +1 (only fits Tiny to Medium creatures, 1 lb) 1x Potion of shield of faith +4 (CL 12: 12 min, 0.1 lb) 2x Potion of invisibility (CL3: 3 min, 0.1 lb) 1x Potion of cure serious wounds (CL5: 3d8+5, 0.1 lb) 2x Potion of cure moderate wounds (CL5: 2d8+5, 0.1 lb) 5x Potion of cure light wounds (CL1: 1d8+1, 0.1 lb)
*I would also like Paulson to start carrying my dark wood tower shield.
