Brewing Trouble
The royal brewer is retiring after decades of crafting ales for the Griffon Crown and its court. A kingdom-wide competition is being held to find a worthy replacement. One with such high hopes is an elf in Riverdale, but the prized recipe requires a strain of hops only known to grow in the treacherous mires of Bogstone.
Riverdale is a farming and fishing town built where the Wyrmtongue River splits into two separate forks. The Flame Fork cuts south to the bustling port city of Torch Towers and spills into the sea. The Ash Fork flows west to feed the mires of Bogstone.
Bogstone is a large swamp surrounded by a high rocky cropping. It is shrouded in mystery but thought to be home to trolls, among other dangers.
Character Creation
There are three options for building your character. If you use a character from the last game, you can keep the ability scores or re-roll, but all equipment and wealth must be reset. One new option for rolling ability scores is “roll 3d6/re-roll lowest” which means you may re-roll the lowest die of each ability score roll but have to take the re-roll even if it is lower.
- #1: PC 4 (6,000 gp) - roll 4d6/drop lowest or 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8
- #2: PC 3 / NPC 2 (5,400 gp) - roll 3d6/re-roll lowest or 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8
- #3: NPC 7 (4,650 gp) - roll 3d6 or 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8
Adventure Details
The PCs are being hired to search Bogstone for Starfall Hops and collect as many batches as possible. They will receive half their payment upfront and half upon returning with the hops, plus a bonus for each batch collected (and there may be the opportunity to make use of the second payment before the session ends).
The adventure will kick off on the morning of Day #1 (we can call it Sunday if that helps). The PCs will receive half their upfront payment and can ask the brewer questions. They will have two weeks (i.e. next Saturday) to complete the mission. Bogstone can be reached by land or river (or air, if you can fly).
Hirelings
The PCs may take on hirelings to increase the size of their party. A hireling can be no more than half your level. There is no limit on the number of hirelings, but you must be able to pay them. They charge a daily rate that depends on class type (PC or NPC) and level. Half the payment is required upfront, so you will need to estimate the length of the mission before setting off, if you want hirelings. Here is an estimation on payment based off 10 days:
Hirelings with PC levels use 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8, and they charge 20 gp/level per day:
1st-level = 20 gp/day x10 days = 200 gp
2nd-level = 40 gp/day x10 days = 400 gp
3rd-level = 60 gp/day x10 days = 600 gp
Hirelings with NPC levels use 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, and they charge 15 gp/level per day:
1st-level = 15 gp/day x10 days = 150 gp
2nd-level = 30 gp/day x10 days = 300 gp
3rd-level = 45 gp/day x10 days = 450 gp
Hirelings have their own starting wealth. NPC levels use the Basic amounts and PC levels use the Heroic amounts.
