The below link is a free pdf player's guide. The guide presents details on how best to customize your character so that they'll fit into the campaign. paizo.com/products/btpy8bd9?Pathfinder-Rise-of-the-Runelords-Players-GuideFeel free to post any ideas you have for characters and we can work on making them mesh with other characters and the setting. And if you are new to Pathfinder here is a link to all their free sources. The Core Rulebook sections are the best place to start. paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/gettingStarted.htmlRacesCore races only from the Core book. Classes Core Classes (preferred) I would prefer that people stick with the core classes. If players with a lot of experience have a class from the advanced player’s guide that really calls to them then that’s ok, just make sure it fits the setting via the Players Guide. StatsRoll 4d6, discard the lowest die result, and add the three remaining results together. Record this total and repeat the process until six numbers are generated. Assign these totals to your ability scores as you see fit. This method is less random and tends to create characters with above-average ability scores. EquipmentEquipment can be purchased only from the Core book or from the setting Player’s Guide pdf. Also, this setting will be a little harder to get magic items and especially customized magic items in general. You may choose to take the average or role for starting gold.

There are my ability score rolls:
7 10 10 13 15 15
I am thinking of playing a Ranger who specializes in archery and stealth. To that end, I may take the Urban Ranger alternative class features from the Advanced Player's Guide to gain some Rogue abilities. I am also considering the Skirmisher alternative class feature, which would replaces spells with combat and movement tricks. Both of these alternative class features replace different standard class features, so they are compatible with each other.

Gai Berinni (Born Gai Fizzletorque, gnome) was born in the southern part of the Sanos Forest. When he was young (~6 yrs), a goblin raiding party left his village in ruins and family dead. Found half starved a week later by a traveling caravan, Gai was swept up, and brought to their next destination, Sandpoint, where he was once again left to fend for himself. It didn't take long, though, for an unusual half-orc tavern owner, Jesk Berinni, to first give him some odd tasks to help out around the tavern, then later to officially adopt him. Whether Jesk just took pity on the child, or enjoyed the irony and imagery of a mighty half orc raising a tiny gnome is unclear. Probably a bit of both.
Gai was raised in the tavern, learning to dodge drunken patrons boots when they just don't see him, or diffuse and amuse them with his wit. He's definitely more a tavern bard, than a theater bard, more comfortable entertaining drunks, than high society. He is sneaky and tricky, focusing on support and trickery in combat, rather than actual damage.

I'm shelving my Ranger for the time being and going to start off with a holy half-orc warrior of sorts - Gundren Swallowtail. He is a Sorcerer with the Celestial bloodline who sees himself as (or perhaps even believes he is) a Paladin of Desna, but he is chaotic good instead of lawful good. He wields a greataxe (because half-orcs get automatic racial proficiency) with most spells geared toward melee combat, but he has offensive ranged cantrips and can even heal a little bit. His only skill is Intimidate. He probably won't fill any typical role in the group, so I may try to do some things outside the box, especially since he has so few spells, so at times, he may focus on things like using the Aid Another action to give others a bonus to their attacks or AC, or tackling enemies in ways other than direct damage.

Then I think I'll go ranger. I'll roll up ability scores when I get home and post a more fleshed or concept.

Gundren Swallowtail, Starblade of Desna (half-orc male, 17 yrs, sorcerer [celestial], chaotic good)
Gundren was a mere babe when a band of adventurers dropped him off at the old Sandpoint Chapel. He was exposed to many faiths growing up but only bothered to remember the teachings that best suited his rambunctious spirit. He also learned to value community over family.
When the chapel burned down, he realized it was time to take to the wind. To spread Desna's good word of freedom and fortune. He hopped aboard the next ship that welcomed his strong arms in exchange for passage to the next port. In this way, he slowly made his way around the Varisian Gulf. More than once. With lengthy stays in Magnimar, and eventually, Riddleport, as well as smaller settlements along the way. When he heard a new chapel was being completed in Sandpoint, he knew it was time to return.
Gundren may appear to be a brute with a greataxe strapped to his back, but he has a kind heart and open, albeit simple, mind. He tries to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but his patience is short. He does not hesitate to use brute force when words fail him and will mete out his own justice when it seems the law may fall short. Makkus - his greataxe, named after a poisonous butterfly breed - has already severed the hand of one surly thief. However, he will only take the life of those who are truly evil with no hope of redemption. Such decisions can be difficult to make, and in most regards whenever Gundren is uncertain as how to proceed, he flips a coin. The first gold piece he ever earned.

Garrin was in the drunk tank. Again. Slumped against the opposite wall was his cellmate: A large, unpleasant looking half-orc. He was there, asleep, when Garrin woke up. The Sczarni wasn't eager to stir him.
At first, Garrin thought the noise was just some spat in the street. Stupid thing, picking a fight in front of the jail. But instead of dying down, the ruckus increased. Then the screams started, and his guards ran out. Fear took hold as he listened to what had obviously become a full scale battle being waged in the streets of Sandpoint. Desperate to know what was going on, desperate to flee, he looked helplessly around his cell. His now unattended cell.
Garrin had the door open in 12 seconds flat. He realized his mistake 3 second later, as the goblin band poured into the jailhouse. Four of them. No, six... Oh, crap, more... His heart continued to plummeted as their numbers grew. His eyes scrunched up tight as he prepared for the inevitable. Then he heard the gutteral growl behind him, felt something brush past. Screams of pain; tiny, ugly, goblinoid screams. Hot liquid splashed against his face. It felt like ages before Garrin mustered the courage to open his eyes. His cellmate stood in the center of the jailhouse, unscathed amidst the carnage. Without a word or a glance, the half-orc drunkenly staggered out the front door.
Garrin was still standing dumbfounded when the surviving guards returned. They stared at the scene in surprise and one exclaimed, "Bloody hell, what happened here?!" As the question was posed, Garrin's wits returned, and he did what came naturally... ----- There were many tales of bravery, many great deeds that arose from the goblins' assault on Sandpoint, but few have captured the public's interest like that of Garrin the Goblin Slayer.
