Sometimes I go to Powells and start reading a random book. The last one was called Orcs, and I thought some of you might enjoy it as well, and it turns out that the library has it too.
The story takes place in a fantasy world where humans have slowly been settling the elder races' (elves, dwarves, pixies, etc) continent... maybe for a few centuries now. Most of the elder races wield minor magics, but destruction of the land has weakened the magic and caused weather changes (mainly that an ice shelf is slowly expanding from the cold north). In the current setting humans are at war with much of the elder races, while others (orcs & dwarves) have joined the humans to some degree, and the humans are at war with which other over religious differences (one god vs many).
Anyway, this story focuses on a band of orcs who were essentially traded (for food, supplies, etc) to powerful half-human sorceress who has built up an army to wipe out the humans who believe in one god (the elder races believe in multiple gods) and pretty much anyone who stands in her way.
