This could play into your defender delusions and army drills. Perhaps you know Franco's character because you hang around the militia. Maybe even pester them for 'frontier reports.' Yeah, that's great. Also, if Harry is going to be a poacher, I could be constantly harassing him. My character would view it as sort of a Tommy Lee Jones/Harrison Ford in The Fugitive kind of relationship, whereas Harry would just be really annoyed that this little gnome keeps screwing with his traps.

I was envisioning a lone druid, somewhat crazy. He's well known around Fallwick Valley, almost infamous, and is frequently seen by himself running combat drills against imaginary giants while riding his dog. I'm picturing kind of a tiny Don Quixote. In most of the valley's settlements, he's treated a bit like the town mascot. Well liked, but only as a source of humor, and nobody takes him seriously in the least. (Although he's oblivious to this.) This sounds amazing!

Also, if Harry is going to be a poacher, I could be constantly harassing him. I'm totally down for this if it works for Rabbit. Also, I haven't rolled up my character yet, but I think I've settled on a CG human rogue. He makes his living, as it were, poaching in the forest and lifting purses from (what he sees as) decadent, wealthy merchants passing through town, especially since the silver boom.

As another tie in, I'm thinking Duin's best friend all through school was recently killed in the mines outside of town. He would probably feel some sort of responsibility to check in on his friend's younger brother now and again who he knew his friend always worried about.
That work for you guys?
As a side note, I'm thinking of making Duin a gambler and a bit of a hustler. I picture since the music doesn't pay to well, he ends up gambling to make up the difference since he's kind of a natural at it (smart, charismatic, good bluff and sense motive). How does gambling work in this town? legal, illegal? Does it happen at bars or gambling halls?

I will handle the death details... Gambling is legal. It is a small town so there are no gambling halls but corner tables at bars have games going often enough. There are one or two dedicated tables at nicer establishements, were a dress code keeps out the riff-raff. If gambling comes up in a game the mechanics work thus; Int modifier + Chr Modifer + D20 vs. Opponent's Int modifier + Chr Modifer + D20.

Charisma comes into play as your general ability to read your opponents and how your opponents will be able to read (or try to read) you.
Intelligence is related to card counting, estimating percentages, and other technical skill in the games.
The 1d20 is the luck factor because it plays a large role in any gambling.
Sleight of hand will not come into play unless you attempt to cheat.
If you put points into “perform (gamble)” you can use that in place of the intelligence or charisma modifier, player’s choice.
But I don’t want to make it any more detailed than that.

It's funny that this just came up - gambling was something I had been considering as a skill challenge in a 4E. It seemed ideal for something like that, as yeah, there were a bunch of skills that could be applicable - Perception, Thievery, Bluff, etc. And the skill challenge setup (a certain number of successes before a certain number of failures, special conditions and outcomes depending on the results of skill checks) seemed like it would work well for something like that. That's something that only works with the whole party involved, however, and as a kind of significant encounter, so it'd have to take a certain amount of time.

What time are we playing this evening? Come to to Franco and I's house; 1905 NE Highland St (97211) at 7pm! I am going to clean up the basement so we can play on the big table down there. ;D

Okay, fellow corpses, what are you thinking as far as characters are concerned? I'm leaning toward cleric or paladin.

I'm feeling a ranger or sorcerer... how 'bout I roll some new stats:
9 (-1) 15 (+2) 16 (+3) 15 (+2) 17 (+3) 17 (+3)
Wowzers, rolling on the floor sure is good to me! If I go ranger, perhaps:
Str 17 (+3) Dex 17 (+3) Con 16 (+3) Int 9 (-1) Wis 15 (+2) Cha 15 (+2)
Or a sorcerer: Str 9 (-1) Dex 17 (+3) Con 16 (+3) Int 15 (+2) Wis 15 (+2) Cha 17 (+3)
