And inspecting the three vials of potion the sorceress can determine the school of magic but not the exact effects, she could learn the details with a indentify spell; Vial 1) Conjuration with a faint Aura Vial 2) Transmutaion with a faint Aura Vial 3) Transmutaion with a faint Aura Do the sorceress or priest of Pelor have any ranks in Spellcraft? Actually, I guess since she was able to identify the school of magic, she must. A DC 25 Spellcraft check (which is different and separate from the check to determine school of magic) can identify any potion just by studying it. Not casting detect magic or anything like that. Just checking it out. Failure means you don't learn anything, and you cannot retry it. Additionally, maybe someone leveling up can take some Spellcraft?

I was considering putting a point in Spellcraft. I have yet to use handle animal for anything, and I'm gonna put those ranks into something else from now on.

I was considering putting a point in Spellcraft. I have yet to use handle animal for anything, and I'm gonna put those ranks into something else from now on. You need to have a decent Handle Animal to get your animal companion to do the tricks it knows (DC 10). I guess we haven't really paid attention to this since the riding dog has mostly been attacking with Ride checks. Though, druids can Handle Animal as a free action with a +4 bonus to their animal companions. Once your modifier is up to +9 for this, you can't ever fail (unless other negative modifiers come into play) since even if you roll a 1, 1+9 = 10, which is a success. Although, if you want to be able to Push an animal, that is a DC 25. Also, 5 ranks (skill points) in Handle Animal gives a +2 synergy bonus to Ride checks and wild empathy checks, and once you have 5 ranks in Handle Animal, you'll always succeed for your animal companion (as long as you don't have a negative Charisma modifier) since 5 ranks +4 druid bonus = +9 modifier. Oh, another thing that came to mind... using the riding wolf for cover and the Mounted Combat feat didn't seem to come up last time but those are good things to remember.

Yeah, I've already put 5 ranks in Handle Animal, but I did forget about my -1 charisma. I guess I'll put one more point into it before I start on another skill. As far as pushing my animal companion, that's not really an issue anymore. Since riding dogs come trained for combat, they know most of the tricks by default, and my bonus tricks are covering the rest. I think the only things Brass can't do right now are perform, seek, and work, and I can make him do work just by riding him if I really need to.
I do have a question regarding the summon nature ability. Would I ever need Handle Animal for any of the creatures I summon? The only info regarding this in the spell description is "If you can communicate with the creature, you can direct it not to attack, to attack particular enemies, or to perform other actions." Is this communication strictly through language, or does handle animal play a role as well?
Also have a question about the feats for my dog. Would he be allowed to take something like power attack? I won't pick it even if he can, but I'm curious as to the limitations of animal companions picking feats. At the moment, I'm having a tough time deciding between dodge, combat reflexes, and toughness.

Andolyn openly reveals that she has some skill at wizardry as well as the more natural arcane sorcery. This provides her a wider and more helpful range of ability. It really is a stroke of luck she is in town to aid you with your magical needs. Giving the potions a second look Andolyn is able to determine the exact vial contents (she didn't look too hard the first time... flighty sorceresses ) Vial 1) spider climbVial 2) remove paralysisVial 3) bear's endurance

Vial 1) spider climbVial 2) remove paralysisVial 3) bear's enduranceAnyone want a particular potion? Darven has a decent Climb (+7) and a good Fort (+6) to help resist paralysis, but the bear's endurance could be useful for the extra hit points during combat. Or if someone has terribly low hit points, maybe they should have it? Of course, if someone has abilities based off Constitution, that would be the best case for it, but I don't think any of us do.

Man, I am really enjoying this game. That moment when Kuvpax went down into the basement and we all realized that there really was a calzone golem was terrific. ;D I had a lot of fun, too. That last adventure in the mines was pretty heavy; a death god, a plague, baby murder, character death, and a dire weasle. I liked it a lot too but wanted to lighten things up a bit. I also thought this adventure would be a good time to insert magic into the world. I know there has been magic use but it had not really been introduced into the daily life aspects... As a reminder, Andolyn and Gendrew are thankful for the help. They are sure the imp and berzerking calzone golem would have done far more damage without your there to stop them. Much of Gendrew's alchemy stock was ruined or damaged, but he was able to salvage a few potions and insists you take them. potions: bull’s strength cat’s grace cure moderate wounds endure elements (fire) jump visionWhen Captain Kurdow hears about your involvement he put together a reward, combined with some additional gold Gendrew contributes you each get 100 gold.

I also love the visuals of a middle aged cleric of pelor attempting (then failing) to jump over a bar, then being smacked across the face by an animated book, and finally delivering the killing blow to a calzone golem. And in between all that Marle was chasing the other characters around a tavern, room to room.
"By Pelor, I have had just about enough of all this!"

Welcome back Michael!
And so when would people like to play again? I have another adventure lined up and ready to go.
Was any of this week available? I think from the chatter about other games this week and the next are all taken up. Is that right?
If people are available this week I could play this Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. I am pretty much completly booked next week except Thursday.
The following week is pretty open.

Yeah, I'm pretty busy this week and we're going to the coast this weekend. Does Franco's Pathfinder game kind of have dibs on next Thursday? If not, I could probably do it if we play at my house - like I mentioned in the other thread, Cara's gonna have night classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a while.

What time would we play on Sunday? We're going to a soccer that I think starts at 5:00 PM, but I might be able to play afterward. Jesus, I feel like the next couple of weeks are super busy.
