Name: Halo
Real Name Drago Mendoza (public identity)
Nationality: Mexican (Mexico City)
Theme: Vigilante Detective
Origin:
My war with El Misfit had many casualties. Lives lost or ruined; unknown costs to my city and its people. Ironically, the final victim of El Misfit was himself. He always told me he was the greatest kingpin the world had ever known, but somewhere along the way he slipped. Defeating me became more important than his empire. These last few years he was reckless. It terrified me. I kept asking myself, “What had I unleashed upon my city?”
Read any Mexican newspaper and you know how it ended. Mortally wounded by his own booby-trap El Misfit died in my arms on the courthouse steps of Mexico City. I am sure even then he loved how theatrical it all was. With his dying breath he unmasked me in front of a gawking crowd. So even in death, he got to me. The revealing of my secret identity changed my life instantly. As a known vigilante I was forced to turn in my badge. I was a damned good detective, but I had to put on the mask to go where bureaucrats and corruption could not slow me down. Now that Detective Mendoza and the vigilante, Halo, are one and the same anyone I keep connected to from my personal life will be in danger. Every villain and crook in Mexico wants a piece of me. My two lives become one.
But the city is a better place. Without its figure head, El Misfit’s criminal empire has splintered into several smaller gangs. They are unorganized and the Mexico’s law enforcement seems to have a handle on them.
This Letter from the Galactic Guardians has me thinking…perhaps it is time to expand my jurisdiction…
