Fame PointsI've been skimming the rest of this adventure path, and it looks pretty awesome!!! Maybe if we don't finish it by the summer, we can pick it up again next fall? Who knows... but I did read up more on the Fame Point system. Turns out that it doesn't really compare to other people. It gets used for a fame check: 1d20+fame points. Pretty interesting, but I won't go into too much detail, but from I gather... your first fame check brings an end to earning fame points, but you can still earn popularity points (which is another system that is similar but used for other things). I think every fame check is based off your initial total, so the initial modifier doesn't lower, but you can spend a fame point to re-roll a check and fame points can also be spent to sway story elements in your favor (which can result in mechanical or story bonuses). If you expend fame points, it doesn't lower your fame check modifier, but you obviously have a limited amount of fame points, so part of the challenge may be determining how and where to spend them. Also, there are ways to lose fame and popularity points, and maybe even ways to be penalized with negative modifiers to these checks if you mess up. At the end of the adventure path, the ending you get depends on how well you do with fame and popularity. Kind of like with video games... where there were different endings based upon your point total or whatever. If this is confusing, well, don't worry about it. If we do get to this portion of the game, it won't be for a long while, and I'll explain it more thoroughly then. But I will add that the DCs are extremely high. Probably higher than anything else you will ever roll against. Re: LootMy vote is that we sell everything with a price tag next to it. This is a little vague and could get confusing... cos it sounds like you want to sell some of your claimed items... which maybe you do? Just let me know what you want to keep for yourself. And I have added the masterwork breastplate to the Claimed Items section. edit again: Reefwood: Do you mind if I swap out the feat I took at the table (heavy armor prof) for Tower Shield Prof? Do you mean the feat you took while leveling up at the last session? If so, then YES. Also, I'll look into the broken/repairing rules for that tower shield.

Yeah, I might use the items I claimed, but would probably be better off selling them and getting stuff I really want.
And that's a "YES, you mind", or "YES, go ahead"? It was, indeed, the feat I took at the most recent session.

It was, indeed, the feat I took at the most recent session. Okay, I'll move those items into a MAYBE pile to be decided when the moment arrives. Also, you can always sell items later... especially if you don't have enough yet to buy what you want, and therefore, will just have a pile of gold sitting around for a while... then again, a big pile of goal has less chance of being sundered by an enemy... but perhaps a better chance of being stolen away. Oh, and ha, I failed to read the question enough to give the proper answer, so I guess it is... NO, I don't mind, so go ahead and switch to Tower Shield Prof.

One thing I'd like to search for is a Mithril Tower Shield. Is this something that is available? Through Gandry, or searching on my own (Should I use Profession(Merchant) for this?) It should be 1030 gp (which includes masterwork).

Through Gandry, or searching on my own (Should I use Profession(Merchant) for this?) Man, you really want to use that Prof (merchant)

Re: Tower Shield - special materials & shopping One thing I'd like to search for is a Mithril Tower Shield. Is this something that is available? Tower shields are made of wood, not metal, but you can look for a darkwood version. Gandry doesn't sell items, but you can ask her if she knows where to find an item (whenever you wind up back at the Barley). Alternatively, you can make a Gather Info check check via Diplomacy, which takes 1d4 hrs.

Oh, right, a Masterwork Darkwood Tower Shield should be 630 gp? I'll ask Gandry, and failing that try to do a gather info check, if there's enough time.

Re: Tower ShieldOh, right, a Masterwork Darkwood Tower Shield should be 630 gp? I'll ask Gandry, and failing that try to do a gather info check, if there's enough time. Yep, 630 gp looks right! Masterwork Tower Shield: 30 +150 = 180 gp Darkwood Tower Shield: 180 gp +(45 lb x 10 gp) = 630 gp

Travel Time
This is how long it takes to reach various spots based on a speed of 20 ft per round.
Barley to Safe House = 2 hr, 15 min Barely to Silver Fish = 70 min Barley to Limehouse Theater = 15 min Barley to Bladewing Bridge = 36 min -- Cross Bladewing Bridge = 3 min -- Bladewing Bridge to Rundottari Tower = 11 min ---- Barley to Rundottari Tower = 50 min
Bladewing Bridge to Horse & Shoe = 45 min Bladewing Bridge to Tattered Sail = 55 min -- Horse & Shoe to Tattered Sail = 10 min Bladewing Bridge to Obrigan Gate = 90 min
Bladewing Bridge to Safe House = 2 hr, 15 min
Rundottari Tower to Obrigan Gate (on wall) = 80 min Rundottari Tower to Obrigan Gate (thru city) = 95 min
Obrigan Gate to Temple of Erastil = 60 min Obrigan Gate to Rotten Skull = 20 min
Locating Arms & Armor
I more or less remembered an old Gather Info system I had for finding weapons and armor to buy. There are misc modifiers based on weapon category, type, material, etc. You start at DC 10 and add up everything that applies. In a city of this size, most things are usually available, so this will mostly determine how long it takes you. If something takes days, it could simply be that it is currently out-of-stock and takes time for it to be available.
You can Take 10 to Gather Info. Each attempt takes 1d4 hours. I suppose you could Take 20 and have it require 80 hours of searching -which would be about 10 days in the current setting (~9 hrs daylight)- and perhaps this is you walking across town everyday to check with the shop that normally has it in-stock but is waiting on a new shipment. Every 5 by which you beat the DC will cut down the search time by 1 hour. If you roll 1 hr for time, every 5 by which you beat the DC will cut down the search time by 15 min (15 min minimum - you find it for sale down the street!).
Weapons Simple Weapon +0 Martial Weapon +2 Exotic Weapon +5 Light Weapon +0 One-Handed Weapon +2 Two-Handed Weapon +4 Special Material +5 Size +2 per category away from Medium Magic +2 per price bonus
The hardest medium-sized weapon to find would be a two-handed exotic weapon of special material with a +10 magic price bonus = DC 10 +4 +5 +5 +20 = DC 44 ...which seems to make sense something that is very high level and difficult to create. Also, this doesn't cover every weapon possibility (some magic features aren't measured by price bonuses), and story elements could factor in as well (a halfling village would be plentiful in Small weapons, so Medium would be harder to find), but this should cover most searches.
Armor & Shields Light +0 Medium +2 Heavy +4 Exotic +5 Special Material +5 Size +2 per category away from Medium Magic +2 per price bonus
There is no official Exotic armor category, but this will probably apply to unusual armors found in the non-core books.

Our big purchases right now are Gendrew's adamantine lucerne hammer and Renold's darkwood tower shield, right? That would be a DC 21 for the hammer under this system, and a DC 19 for the shield. What is Renold's Diplomacy modifier? Can he hit either of those by taking a 10?
We could also use Gendrew's contact for a +10 bonus on his check. By taking a 10 with his Prof (Merchant), that would put it above the DC for the hammer, and we'll find it in 1-4 hours.

Renold can hit the shield with taking a 10 (+9 diplo), but not the hammer, yet. Gather info is Diplomacy, right? Would Prof (Merchant) be identical to Diplomacy when used for this, or would it give any sort of bonus?
Edit: Wait, how do you get to DC 19 and 21? Looks like the only modifier for the shield is Special Material +5 giving it a DC 15. The hammer should be DC 19 (Martial +2, two handed +4, special material +5)

10 + 2 + 4 + 5 = 21
But I did accidentally add the Heavy modifier to the shield. It would just be a +15.

Re: Locating Arms & Armor
Diplomacy is rolled to use Gather Info. There may be some feats or traits or items that specifically give a bonus to only or the other, but nothing comes to mind. And no, Profession does not give any bonus.
Now that I think about it more, the tower shield is certainly heavier than a heavy shield and it is pretty exotic in terms of function, but applying both modifiers to it does seem excessive because it also comes with penalties. Thinking about the standard minor modifiers, I suppose adding a +2 to the lower modifier would be fine, so...
Tower Shield DC 10 +4 heavy +2 = DC 16 +5 special material = DC 21
